( Dutch, 1620 - 1656 17th C)
A young boy with his horse
Materials:
oil on panel
Measurements:
55.87 in. (141.90 cm.) (height) by 42.52 in. (108.00 cm.) (width)
Markings:
signed and dated lower center: H. Doncker 1646
Condition:
Panel consists of three boards that are flat and stable with two vertical joins. On the reverse of the panel there are several small-cut battens that run along each join. One join runs vertically from the upper left, through the horse's neck and child's proper right arm, while the other runs vertically form the upper right, through the horse's back and the top of the hat in the child's hand. The image presents well, and although some of the painting has thinned, for example on the horse's tail, the details can still be appreciated. A visible spot of retouching about 3 inches long is visible in the sky at upper right. The aforementioned joins fluoresce under UV, as well as scattered spots of retouching throughout, mostly concentrated in the sky, the tail of the horse, and the sitter's hair. Pin dots of retouching are scattered here and there on the sitter's face and hand, as well as his outfit, though these are not distracting. Painting can hang as is. Offered in an ebonized wood frame
